How to quickly shift comparison and opt for joy instead

27.01.2018

On January 1st, I sat down to create my new vision board. I love to refresh

my board every 3-4 months, along with my goals and intentions for that period. I will write out my goals, and then set about creating a secret Pinterest board where I can save images that resonate with my new vision and what I want to cultivate. Whilst doing this, I stumbled upon a Joseph Campbell quote which I knew needed to be included. (For those who aren’t aware of his work, Campbell was an American mythologist, who is most well-known for his work on the concept of ‘the hero’s journey’.) The quote reads as follows.

‘If you are your authentic self, you have no competition.’

My Authenticity Arena Facebook tribe know how much I value words and quotes, as each week we celebrate Quote of the Day Thursdays. (Come and join us by clicking here, we’d love to have you!) Reading that particular quote felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. ‘Of course!’ I thought. ‘It’s so obvious.’ No matter your opinion or beliefs surrounding creation or faith, it is widely accepted that every single person on this planet is unique. No two people are exactly the same (not even identical twins!), and we all have our own traits, strengths and individualities. Why would you be created any ‘lesser’ than anyone else?

When we negatively compare ourselves to others, we lessen our perceived importance and value. That chick on Instagram who you think has it all- just because she’s living her life in a certain way, doesn’t mean that you can’t or that, in fact, it has anything to do with what you do or don’t have. She is her, and you are you. The only competition is that which you create.

If you do find yourself experiencing a bout of comparisonitis, use it as way to reflect on what the other person has, that you maybe aren’t allowing to be fully expressed within yourself. Let them be your mirror to awaken new potential in yourself. There’s no scale here. There’s no hierarchy of who is ‘better’ than who. There’s simply each person being their authentic self- and that is frickin’ beautiful!

If you’re feeling like 2018 is your year to step out and shine as the real you, I’d LOVE to support you. Simply click this link to book a Complimentary Clarity Call and we can get started!

With gratitude and love,

Jess
